The Search Criteria for the Album List and the Song Search screens work the same way.
The easiest way to explain how searching works is to use some examples.
If you want to search for a particular Artist, say ‘Shanley Del’ you don’t have to type in the whole name. You can search for some of the characters in the name. There are two situations requiring slightly different methods, which are explained here.
Example 1 – Normal Seaches
If you knew the first name, you could type in the first few characters of the name, in this case ‘Shan’, in the Artist box and you would find all artists starting with ‘Shan’.
Example 2 – Wildcard * Searches
If you didn’t know the first name of the artist, you could type ‘*Del’ and it would find all artists with ‘Del’ anywhere in the name.
You can also use this method if you don’t know the exact spelling of a name, or if you are looking for particular words to relate to a theme.
This works the same way with most fields including Album Title, Song Title, Year Recorded, etc.
The Custom Playlist is useful for compiling a specific list of songs for playing later. It shows the total length of songs selected, providing the minutes have been entered for each song..
The Playlist can be printed out using the reports menu.
1. First find a song, using the Search Critieria then select the song by clicking it once.
2. Next click Add Song to Playlist Button.
3. To remove specific songs from the Playlist, click Remove Song Button.
4. Click Clear Playlist Button to clear all songs.

If you wish to remove a Sort Level, click the checkbox so it becomes blank.

KeyToMusic has the facility to work with multiple Music Collections. This can be useful if you wish to separate your music into multiple Collections, or be able to open other peoples Collection Files.
To create a new collection, choose Setup from the Main Menu, then select Create New Collection. You will be prompted to enter a name for your new Music Collection. Type in a name you will be able to identify your collection by, and click OK.
To Switch to your new Collection, return to the Main Menu and click on Switch Collections. You will be prompted to select a Collection File, the Collection you just created should be displayed in the Dialogue Box. Select it and click Open.
At any time, you can tell which Collection you have open by looking at the top bar of the KeyToMusic Menu.
Choose Setup from the Main Menu then select Options from the Setup Menu.

By default, KeyToMusic will automatically issue the Album Number for you. If you wish to enter Album Numbers manually, for example if you already have your own catalogue system, simply uncheck the Auto Album Numbering checkbox before you start entering any albums.
If you change this option after you have entered some albums into the database, you may experience unexpected results when sorting data, so it is advisable to make your choice before you start.
By default, when you create a collection, no password is required to use it.
If you turn on Security, only the currently selected Collection is afffected.
Once a Collection is secured, when you open the Collection, the user will be prompted to Login as Data Entry or Enquiry Only Mode. Enquiry Mode does not require a password, but Data Entry Mode does.
If you would like to prevent people from making changes to the current Collection, check this option. Initially the password is set to ‘TEST’. Please change this next time you open the collection file for security reasons. Write your new password down and store it in a safe place.
This option allows you to control how many characters can be entered for your Album Number or Catalog Number. This maximum cannot be any more than 10 characters.
This option only affects the currently selected collection.
If you have a scanner and would like to scan the cover of each album, the location of the scanned images for the currently selected collection can be specified in the Options screen. The file types recognised by KeyToMusic are JPG and BMP files.
HINT: When you are scanning your Album Covers, there are two things you need to consider in order to minimise the load on your PC.
1. We recommend saving the scanned image as a JPG file as they take up less space on your hard drive.
2. Resize the scanned image so it is approximately the same size as the Box that displays the picture on the Album Details Screen.
Click OK to accept changes.
System Options is for display purposes only. If you need to contact Key To I.T. regarding a Key To Music, you may be asked to go to this screen to provide details of Program Versions, etc.

You will not normally need to use this screen.
