Key to I.T. has designed and developed many database applications with a Financial or Accounting purpose.    Leanne Benson, Key to I.T.'s designer, has an Accounting Degree as well as Software Design qualifications.   She worked in the Finance and Administration department of a large organisation for 12 years before starting her own Database Design business.

Microsoft Access Database Application

Most people I talk to say that it's reasonably quick and easy to create a simple database using Microsoft Access. They also say that it is not so quick and easy to make a user friendly application.

These applications are often destined for use by people with very little experience or knowledge of how a computer works. This means the user interface must be simple, self explanatory, and non-threatening.

The application also must leave little room for error to protect the integrity of the data going in. As the old saying goes 'garbage in, garbage out'.

Reporting

The ability to extract information from a database in a flexible way is SO important for businesses. Designing a report in Access is quite easy, but once you've made the report, you can't "filter" what information appears on it.

Sometimes an inexperienced designer would be forced to create multiple reports to show different records with the same layout.   eg. All Sales from Queensland, All Sales from NSW.

Our flexible Report Criteria system offers choices to the user so they can select specific data from one report layout to print or export to Excel, Word, Text or PDF.

In the previous example, there would be a Sales Report which provides the choice to choose one State, or Selected States, or All States before the report is produced. This means if a report design needs changing, it only needs to be done once.

Online Help and Documentation

If you'd like, we can also provide an online help system within the program so that all the user needs to do is press F1 or click the help button to find out more about each screen or report in the system.
